Members of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines–Bataan received free medical consultations and medicines during the “Araw ng mga Beterano” celebration held on April 5 at the Bataan People’s Center. Said activity is part of the provincial government’s observance of Veterans Week and the national commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9.
Congressman Jernie Jett Nisay graced the event and reaffirmed his support for Filipino veterans. In his speech, he cited Republic Act No. 11958, which he co-authored, as a key legislative measure expanding benefits for veterans and their dependents. He also reported on-going efforts to pass the proposed Universal Social Pension Act, which seeks to provide financial assistance to all senior citizens, regardless of economic status.
Also present was Board Member Atty. Jomar Gaza, chair of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s Committee on Education and Culture. Gaza, along with Board Member Maria Margarita Roque, authored in 2023 a provincial ordinance declaring living World War II veterans in Bataan as “Living Treasures.” The Ordinance institutionalizes the benefits provided to them by the Provincial Government.
The event was organized by the Provincial Tourism Office, in partnership with the Provincial Health Office and Philippine Veterans Bank. It also featured special performances by the Marine Drum and Bugle Team and students from Pablo Roman National High School.
